Agile emerged to deal with projects whose requirements keep changing. It values individuals and interactions, working product, customer collaboration, and responding to change.
Scrum is the best-known agile framework. The team works in fixed-length cycles called "sprints", usually one to four weeks long, and delivers a usable product increment at the end of each.
There are three roles: the Product Owner (sets priorities and represents the customer), the Scrum Master (supports the team and removes impediments), and the Developers (do the work). All the required work is kept in a prioritized Product Backlog.
The core events: Sprint Planning, the Daily Scrum (15 minutes), the Sprint Review to show what was done, and the Sprint Retrospective to improve how the team works.
💡 Key points
- Work in short cycles with frequent delivery and continuous feedback.
- Roles: Product Owner, Scrum Master, Developers.
- Continuous improvement is built in through the retrospective.
🌍 Real-life example
A team building an appointment-booking app delivers only the sign-up screen in sprint one and has real users try it. Their feedback reshapes sprint two's priorities, instead of the problem being discovered a year later.
